Who is Lucas Glover?
Lucas Glover is the embodiment of the phrase "quietly brilliant." He doesn’t seek the limelight, he doesn’t engage in Twitter beefs, and he definitely doesn’t flash any Bryson-esque gym selfies. Instead, he’s been grinding away on the PGA Tour since the early 2000s, racking up wins and somehow surviving one of the most painful yips stories in golf history. If golf were a movie, Glover would be the character who quietly saves the day while everyone else is too busy grandstanding.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1979, Glover was a standout golfer from a young age. He played collegiate golf at Clemson University, where he racked up accolades like they were going out of style. By 2003, he made the jump to professional golf and, six years later, delivered the performance of his life, winning the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black—a course so brutally difficult it makes grown men cry.
The victory should have cemented Glover as one of the game’s greats, but instead, he found himself fighting an opponent more relentless than Tiger in his prime: the putter yips. For years, his putting stroke looked more like he was trying to fend off an angry squirrel than sink a four-footer. It got so bad that he eventually ditched conventional putters altogether and went full broomstick mode—an unorthodox but career-saving switch that has reignited his game in recent years.
Now, in his 40s, Glover is experiencing a renaissance. In 2023, he won back-to-back events on the PGA Tour, proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks—especially if those tricks involve anchoring a putter against your chest and draining everything in sight. Heading into The Players Championship, Glover is once again a legitimate threat, and golf fans everywhere are here for the comeback story.

Lucas Glover’s Biography & Players Championship Performances
Lucas Glover has had a love-hate relationship with The Players Championship. While TPC Sawgrass has humbled many a golfer, Glover’s steady ball-striking has allowed him to hang around leaderboards over the years. His best finishes have come when his putter hasn’t completely abandoned him, which, unfortunately, has been a rare occurrence until recently.
With his career resurgence, 2024 could be the year he finally conquers the Stadium Course. His elite iron play makes him a perfect fit for Sawgrass, where precise approach shots are rewarded, and his newfound confidence on the greens means he’s no longer just hoping for two-putts.
It’s impossible to talk about Glover’s career without mentioning the way he’s turned things around. For years, his name was synonymous with putting struggles, but now he’s an inspiration for every golfer who has ever stood over a four-footer and thought, “Please, not again.” The broomstick putter may not be pretty, but neither is missing cuts due to shaky hands.
Heading into The Players, Glover is a dark horse contender, but one who’s already proven he can hang with the best. With his elite tee-to-green game, steady demeanor, and newfound confidence with the broomstick, don’t be surprised if he’s lurking near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.
